Is an Earth-wide temperature boost man made - Essay Example To put it plainly, no one has any uncertainty about the way that environmental temperature is indicating unusual increments as of late. Then again, numerous individuals accept that an Earth-wide temperature boost is a trick or synthetic issue so as to misuse the assumptions of individuals for business purposes. â€Å"Global warming doubters consider that the climate models used to set up a dangerous atmospheric devation and to figure its effects are distorted†1. They are of the view that a few researchers raise this issue so as to bring in cash for the sake of a dangerous atmospheric devation looks into. This paper basically examinations whether a worldwide temperature alteration is synthetic or not. Unmistakable researchers, for example, Frederick Seitz, Ph.D., Richard S. Lindzen, Ph.D., S. Fred Singer, Ph.D, Patrick J. Michaels, Ph.D. what's more, Robert C. Balling, Jr., Ph. D.2 have communicated questions over environmental change and tested the agreement of standard scient ists3. Ozone depleting substance discharges from autos and modern units are frequently refered to as the significant purpose behind an unnatural weather change. As indicated by logical standards, gases in climate ought to extend when they get warmed and travel the upward way. On the off chance that that is valid, gaseous tension at earth’s surface ought to be plunged. Nonetheless, such plunge in air pressure close earth’s surface has been rarely watched. ... Likewise the warming can be because of the variety in cloud cover4. Master Crimson (n. d) has cited the assessments of 19,000 researchers so as to dismiss the possibility of a worldwide temperature alteration. He has called attention to that these researchers are of the view that a worldwide temperature alteration is most likely common and not a crisis5. It ought to be noticed that it is unthinkable for humankind to roll out any improvements in sun based yield or varieties in overcast spread. Under these conditions, the assessment of meteorologist John Coleman, originator of the Weather Channel, is a lot of significant. He said that â€Å"even if an Earth-wide temperature boost is something to stress over, it's perilous to look to government to fix the climate†6. Stephen Mulholland (2009) moved toward a dangerous atmospheric devation issue from an alternate point. As he would like to think, â€Å"We have probably the best trick: environmental change and anthropogenic an Earth -wide temperature boost (AGW), in which we're solicited to consume trillions from dollars now so occasions which may, or may not, happen when we've been dead for quite a long time don't take place†7. In Dr. Sami Solanki’s (the chief of the famous Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Gottingen, Germany) feeling, â€Å"Sun has been at its most grounded in the course of recent years and may now be influencing worldwide temperatures†8. At the end of the day, we need to look upwards to recognize the scalawag who causes an Earth-wide temperature boost as opposed to glancing around. A few researchers accept that the force of sun powered radiations increments and diminishes occasionally in like clockwork of timespan. As they would see it, sun is at present experiencing a period wherein its radiations are heightened and there is nothing to stress over it since such increments in temperature may not go past certain

Seagram building Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Seagram building - Essay Example The structure of the structure was given by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe who came to America from Germany (Whiffen and Koeper, 1984). The mythic standards of German productivity and clean cut German plan are positively obvious from the manner in which the structure is organized at this point the general blend of the faã §ade of the structure doesn't make it stand out in contrast to everything else among different structures which encompass it. The structure likewise submits its general direction to the American engineer Philip Johnson who took a shot at the structure from the time it was begun in 1954 to the time it was finished in 1958. The structure contains 38 stories and the outside speaks to a fine case of post current engineering that centers around corporate earnestness and traces of gothic styling (Muschamp, 1999). The underlying reason for the structure was to fill in as corporate central command and the essential workplaces for Seagram’s and Sons yet with time different workplaces and organizations have set up their bases in the structure also. While it is fascinating to concentrate how the occupants of the structure have changed with time, for our motivations, it is maybe increasingly imperative to contemplate the engineering and the craft of the structure. The structure faces Park Avenue over a wide court of Vermont stone which is lined by water pools on the two sides that have edges of marble that has been given a classical look (Whiffen and Koeper, 1984). The engineering of the pinnacle itself depends on the steel structure that holds the structure together with dividers of pink-dark glass that give the structure an unmistakable look. The subsequent component, which helps in making the now exemplary search for the structure, originate from the bronze that has been utilized to make the different spandrels and I-bars which are noticeable on the outside of the structure (Muschamp, 1999). 7 Things to Do Before Turning in Your Paper

7 Things to Do Before Turning in Your Paper (0) There are five steps to the writing processâ€" prewriting, writing, revising, editing, and publishing. After writing your paper, there are two whole steps you need to do before turning it in. That’s rightâ€"revising your essay takes just as many steps as writing it in the first place. Step 1: Revisingâ€"The Big Picture As you can see, revising is step 3, or the first thing you should do after writing your essay. Revising does not mean looking at spelling or grammar; that comes with the next step, editing. Rather, revising means looking at the paper as a whole and identifying (and correcting) to make the essay flow better. Organization Read your essay with an eye for how it’s organized. For example, does it makes sense to talk about gathering ingredients for a ham sandwich in the last paragraph before the conclusion? Not really. To identify bad organization, you have to know how you’ve organized your paper. You can organize your essay in many different ways, some of which include: Chronology (progression through time) Logic (what makes the most sense to talk about first, second, and so on) Topic (group body paragraphs so that the topic stays the same until you’re ready to move on) The decision about how to organize the paper should be made in step 1 of the writing process, during prewriting. Outlines are helpful for ensuring that you write the essay in an organized way. You may find when you revise the essay that the organization on the outline had some gaps in logic or chronology. That’s okâ€"this is the time to move paragraphs around! Making Sentences Flow A step below organization is checking for flow. Look at each individual paragraph and ensure that the sentences string together in a rhythm that can easily be followed. In other words, you want the reader to be able to move easily through the writing without having to pause to figure out what you were trying to say. An easy way to fix this problem is transition words. There are many, many words that help sentences connect to one another. Use words such as: And Also Afterward Of course Then Therefore Ultimately In other words There are tons more, but the idea is that you use these terms when you want to connect the idea of one sentence to the preceding sentence, whether it agrees or not. Example: Transition Word of Agreement I jogged to the store to catch up with my friend, who I’d spied driving down the road. Strangely enough, she didn’t turn the car off when she went inside. Example: Transition Word of Disagreement My dog sat languishing in the sun to warm up after being in the cold air conditioning. Be that as it may, I don’t like him to get too hot, so I brought him back inside. Making Quotes and Examples Flow Another way to make sure your essay flows well is to ensure that every quote, paraphrase, summary, or example is well introduced and explained. When you fail to do this, it makes the reader pause. If you tell your reader who says it, then follow the quote with an analysis of the quote and why you used it, the reader is able to keep up a good rhythm. That’s your goal. Some people call this strategy a “quotation sandwich.” You want to sandwich your quotes and paraphrases like this:   Introduction of quote/paraphrase (top bread) The quote/paraphrase itself (meat or sandwich filling) Analysis/explanation (bottom bread) This strategy will ensure that your readers are clued in to each quote and can read at a steady pace. Example: Quotation Sandwich In his article on salads, Sam Sifton of the New York Times says, “[Julia’s] recipe for simple vinaigrette may anyway change your life for the better, forever.” Vinaigrettes may be known for lacking the creaminess that traditional salad dressing has, but Sifton pushes us to give them another look. *Referenced article is linked here. Step 2: Editingâ€"The Details When you get to the fourth step of the writing process, editing, you’re in for some fine tuning. This step ensures that your writing is correct and easier to read. Basic Paper Formatting With any essay that you’re turning in for a grade, there should be some sort of format you follow. The most common formats for students are MLA format and APA format, but teachers can add their own rules. Pay attention to what is required and check for this formatting once your revising is done. Look at example pages to make sure you’ve got it right. Do you have one-inch margins? Size 12 font? Is your heading in the correct place? And so on. Checking for Slang Although some slang might be ok in essay in order for your voice to shine through, most of the time, formal writing is required. Unless your teacher tells you that slang is ok, avoid using words like “ain’t” or “man” or whatever is popular online or at school these days. Read through your essay and look for these words. You may find it helpful to have someone else read through it, or to read it out loud yourself. When you find slang words, replace them with formal terms. Grammar One of the most important things to look for when you’re editing your paper is proper grammar. While there are many grammar rules, here are a few major ones to make sure you’ve got it right: Subject-verb agreement Verb tense consistency Plural agreement Pronoun agreement It might be helpful to review grammar rules from previous years of study to ensure that you’re getting it right. You can also submit your essay to a tutor for their help in identifying incorrect grammar. Punctuation Finally, one of the most basic and important parts of an essay is ensuring punctuation is correct. This means you’re looking at commas, periods, semicolons, colons, apostrophes, dashes, quotation marks, and so on. You’re looking both for missing and incorrectly placed punctuation. Commas can be quite complex, but here’s a quick snapshot of some of the most pertinent comma rules: Comma before a coordinating conjunction Comma after an introductory phrase Comma before a quote or after it, depending on its location in the sentence Comma in a series of items Again, it might be helpful to look at basic punctuation rules before reviewing your essay. It’s also helpful to have someone else, like a tutor, look over the essay to catch mistakes you missed. During the revising and editing steps of the writing process, there certainly is a lot to do. But don’t let that overwhelm you. Take it one step at a time. Ignore comma errors while revising; then forget about organization when you’re hunting for missing periods. In the end, your polished essay will likely be well rewarded.

Nurse - 1288 Words

The Essence of Nursing Caring defines nursing as curing often defines medicine. Caring and nursing are so interwined that nursing always appeared on the same page in a Google search for the definition of caring. According to the dictionary definition of caring, it is a feeling and exhibiting concern and empathy for others; showing or having compassion . As the definition shows, caring is a feeling that also requires an action. Dr. Jean Watson’s theory is important to nursing due to the central concept of caring. Watson states that, â€Å"a caring attitude is not transmitted from generation to generation by genes. It is transmitted by the culture of the profession as a unique way of coping with its environment† ( 1979). Her†¦show more content†¦Developed in 1979 and revised in 1985, Watson views the â€Å"Curative factors† as a guide for the care of nursing. One of her ten primary curative factors is the provision for a supportive, protective, and/or corr ective mental, physical, socio-cultural and spiritual environment (1988). From the moment the nurse enters the patient’s room, a feeling of expectation is created. Watson believes that through the nurse’s attitude and competence, a patient’s world can become larger or smaller; brighter or dim; rich or dull, threatening or secure(1988). In helping Mr. K. settle in his room on admission, his environment must be arranged so that he can feel at ease. The goal of nursing with Watson’s theory is to create a healing environment whereby wholeness, beauty, comfort, dignity, and peace are potentiated. To achieve this goal, attention must be given to the cleanliness, privacy, safety, light and comfort measures. Health Health corresponds to a person’s harmony or balance within the mind, body, and spirit related to the degree of congruence between the self as perceived and the self as experienced. Watson believes that a person’s health is a subjective experience and a higher degree of health will be present if the harmony that comes from the ability to experience one’s real self exists(1988). Symbolism Is The Use Of Symbols To Signify Important Meaning

Symbolism is the use of symbols to signify important meaning to things. These symbols could be basically anything in which a meaning is more than just the literal context. Hawthorne has several uses of symbolisms in his stories. Symbolism was very popular literary device during the Romantic period, where the object embodied some sort of idea. â€Å"The symbolism of his works focused on isolation and guilt of the individual, the uncertainties of good and evil, and the continual hold of the past on the present. Hawthorne focused on his Calvinist lineage and America s Calvinist ideological past, as well, in hopes of coming to terms and making sense of it. Hawthorne s writing is full of symbolic characters, settings, and objects. Hawthorne s†¦show more content†¦Another form of symbolism in The Scarlett Letter is Hester’s daughter, Pearl. This meant that Hester paid a great pr ice to have Pearl. â€Å"In exchange for Pearl, she gave up everything else: her reputation, her community, and even her religion† (Shmoop Editorial Team). Lastly, the readers see a symbolism of the black man toward the end of the book. The black man is considered the expression of Satan. Hester thought the scarlet letter mark was the black man’s mark. The black man was considered to be evil and that is how it was symbolic in the story. â€Å"Hawthorne has a perfect atmosphere for the symbols in The Scarlet Letter because the Puritans saw the world through allegory. An allegory in literature is a story where characters, objects, and events have a hidden meaning and are used to present some universal lesson. For them, simple patterns, like the meteor streaking through the sky, became religious or moral interpretations for human events. Objects, such as the scaffold, were ritualistic symbols for such concepts as sin and penitence† (The Scarlet Letter). â€Å"You ng Goodman Brown† is a story that took place during the Salem Witch Trials. Analyzing the Description of Alison Essay - 778 Words

Analyzing the Description of Alison The story of Alison is a typical set piece of courtly romance. This classic example of courtly romance is represented in the description of her appearance and her relationships with John, Nicholas and Absalon. The male attitude to marriage in the time that Chaucer was writing The Millers Tale was very selfish. It was to produce a male heir and to improve social and economic status. Usually very little sexual activity was indulged in between the husband and wife, thus the young wife falls prey to admiration from other men. Many of the descriptions that Chaucer uses to describe Alison are double entendre descriptions. Chaucer immediately begins with such a†¦show more content†¦Therto she koude skippe and make game, As any kyde or calf folwynge his dame.. Here Chaucer describes Alison as a young goat. The first impressions of a young goat are cute and energetic, but the undertone of the simile is awkwardness, of gangly stature and highly driven by sex. Another simile of Alison being gangly is Long as a mast, and upright as a bolt. Here Alison is described as a stereotypical perfect woman, tall and thin. But, the monosyllabic tone brings out the harsh truth of Alison really being extremely thin and not curvy at all, and curves are a very attractive quality to a woman. Chaucer finishes the description of Alisons physical appearance by describing her as a flower, which at first seems like a very nice compliment but, of course, there is a connotation which is not so pleasing. She was a prymerole, a piggesnye. At this point, Chaucer describes Alison as a type of primrose. A primrose is a pretty flower but, the hidden meaning is that a primrose is nothing special. It is a pale colour which could represent Alisons complexion as sickly. Chaucer begins by describing Alisons clothes and adornments as white. A barmclooth as whit as morne milk Upon her lendes, ful many a goore.. The whiteness of the apron is symbolic of purity and chastity. But, the real truth is that the colour is mundane and dull. A religion where you can rely on, where in your faith is based on having belief towards God. We will write a custom essay sample on Belief Fact Infer or any similar topic only for you Order Now Religion is a man’s expression of his acknowledgement of the divine. Throughout the ages and throughout the world, people have been baffled by the unknown and the mysteries of life for which they have no ready answer. As I look around and observe the magnificent things, I can really say to myself that how awesome is he who created the heavens and the earth. I can truly say to myself that there is someone up there, who is greater than us and omnipotent. There are times that I try to figure out things but the truth is I cannot fathom it; thus, that is how religion came in. But there is one thing that I have great doubts with, and that is if Religion is still important today as it was before? Are the religious convictions still present in this generation? Many people nowadays are much busier than before. They are too preoccupied with other things such as money, success, fame, treasures and material possessions. And even if they do not religiously go to church and have an established religion, they still manage to be so happy and successful. I really wonder why. And there are others who have an established religion, but live their lives with miseries. Is not it unfair? As we all know critical thinking is a process where in one carefully analyzes a certain situation that serves as a tool for something to achieve or to be done. Suppressing critical thinking is sometimes the effect of minding too much of other things and avoid getting so stressed out and pressured. Sleeping, eating, winding up and having fun are some of the methods used to suppress one’s critical thinking. Fact is the truth. A thing can be made a fact when it is being supported with theories, and evidence. A fact is real when it is already accepted by great theorist, scientist, sociologists and others and also backed up with tangible evidences. Yes, facts are open to subjective interpretation, since we have our own ways of conceiving things. Some of us do not accept established facts while others do. To infer means to prove, to display truth. No, I think it is not the same as fact. Because in fact, it is already made evident or true while to infer is to make something into a truth or a fact. There is still a process involved in it. For example; The student is asking their professor to infer that humans really came from apes; The student nurse is to infer that the reason why she was absent from her duty was due to her hospitalization. Dancing Culture in Dominican Republic †Free Samples to Students

Question: Discuss about the Dancing Culture in Dominican Republic. Answer: Introduction The Dominican Republic can be defined as s sovereign state which is located in the Hispaniola Island. The state is popularly known for its unique music style and genre known as meringue. Merengue, which is the national dance and music of the Dominican Republic, can be defined as a fast-paced rhythmic, lively dance music which is consist of a tempo between 120 and 160 beats per minutes. Initially, this dance form was rejected by the elite class of the Dominican Society and was considered to be vulgar and dance of the masses (Gregory, 2014). However, the famous Merengue politician Trujillo had changed the misconception by putting the mentioned dance form on centre stage in majority of his events and parties. The mentioned dance performance is chiefly performed with the help of various local and global musical instruments. While two of the chief local instruments used are Guira and Tambora, some of the frequently used international instruments for Merengue are Accordion, brass, drums and other chorded instruments. Bachata is another music and dance form of the Dominican Republic. This dance and music form has gained popularity over the years. The subjects of Bachata songs are highly romantic, generally heartbroken tales. In fact, initially, this dance and music form was named as Amargue', a Dominican term which means sadness and bitterness (Berberena, 2014). While Bachata and Merengue are two of the most popular dance and music form of the Dominican Republic which have gained popularity across the world, Sarandunga, Guarapo and Sarambo are popular folkloric dance form of the state. The four musical instruments that are played during Sarandunga are one Guiro and three small drums. In Merengue dance, the man leads. The woman is held by man with the right hand and the dance involves swaying of hips sensually by the couple left right. However, one of the strict rules of this dance form is that the torso cannot be swung. Without releasing the hold of their hands, the couple turns and occasionally, step side to side. The woman's job in this dance form is just to follow the cues while maintaining posture and sway the hip while maintaining the step (Hernandez, 2014). Bachata is a dance form that includes a good number of instruments like guitars, bongos, drums and Guira is a three step dance with a fourth tap step. Like Merengue, Bachata dance also involves two partners. Here also the man leads. As they move their body, the couple stays closer. They move their hips while forming a square-like structure with their feet. This dance form involves pull and push with the hand. Some of the highly renowned Bachata dance artists who have taken this dance form on the national stage are Juan Luis Guerra, Rauln Rodrguez, Anthony Santos, Luis Vargas and Frank Reyes. Unlike the above mentioned dance forms, Sarandunga dance can be performed both by a couple and a group of individuals at a time. In this dance, the woman is the centre of attraction. While dancing, the woman coyly rejects the advances of her partner by pushing him with her shoulder gently. The woman never looks up while dancing and the man waves a handkerchief at her while standing tall. Apart from her feet, the body of the woman does not move. When eventually the shoulders of the partner's touch, the dance converts to a game. When it comes to Guarapo and Sarambo dance form, both are tap dances. The only difference between the above mentioned dance forms is that Sarambo is faster paced than Gauarapo. In both the dance form, only one couple can participate at a time. The choreography involves the partners to approach each other only to step away (Snodgrass, 2016). While the man keeps his hand to his sides while dancing, the woman moves while lifting her skirts above her knees. The Bachata form of music and dance originated in the rural marginal neighbourhood and Countryside of the Dominican Republic. According to several researchers, the term Merengue originated from African dances during the colonial period (Hutchinson, 2015). Considering the fact that Merengue has a good number of genres, the traditional, folkloric kind of Merengue, known as Perico ripiaoormerengue tpico is believed to be originated during the end of 19th Century in Cibao region. When it comes to Sarandunga, this dance and music form is inspired by the dances of Spanish peasants. The origin of both Guarapo and Sarambo dance forms in Spain. Occasion for the dance The Merengue Festival takes place every year in July at both Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo. This dance festival lasts for a whole week. Dances are performed by the dancers on the street and open stages. Competitions for the array of honors are held on the basis of choreography, originality and fluidity. Not only the dancers but common people along with the tourists also participated in the mentioned occasion. Being a popular tourist spot, the Bachata festival is held in the state in order to attract tourists and encourage recreation. In Touch Island, a festival is held during the May, every year where all the attendees accumulate to show their dance forms (Farrell, 2014). Not only that, every year the Dominican Republic Bachata Festival is held in the state. During this festival, parties are held in local clubs where a good number of local people along with visitors from different countries participate. Due to the high demand for the festival, the demand for the tickets of the festi val remains high. While Bachata and Merengue festivals are purely held for entertainment, the Sarandunga festival, popularly known as Saints festival can be considered as a manifestation of religious devotion to Saint John, the Baptist. Every year the members of Bani brotherhood of Peravia province organize the mentioned festival to show reverence and love for the saint. Every year, the Saint Dance festival is held on 25th June and ends on 25th June. Guarapo and Sarambo dance forms are performed in various celebrations of rural occasions. During the performance of the Merengue dance form, the man is generally dressed in standard dark slacks along with button down shirt. The woman, on the other hand, is dressed in colorful, body-hugging costumes not only to show off the movement of the dance form but also to complement the liveliness of the song. However, the costume of the dances depends largely on the location of their performance. In cultural festivals, the woman wears wide, flowy long skirts along with traditional peasant tops (Hutchinson, 2012). The color of the dress is chosen bright and warm, in order to reflect the liveliness of the dance form. Men are generally dressed in shirts and pants complementing the color of the dress of their partners. Bachata dance form, being a highly sensual and intimate dance form involves a lots of body contacts. Generally dress worn by both the male and the female dancers while performing to highly body revelling, sensual and comfortable in order to provide a free range of motion. During the festivals, the women generally wear short dresses or skirts that have a lot of fringes attached to it. The men are generally dressed in body hugging shirts and pants (Garrido Bendrups, 2013). During the performance of Sarandunga dance form, women wear flowy and wide gowns and men wear traditional peasant dress. When it comes to Guarapo and Sarambo, women are dressed in flowy frocks and men get dressed up in a unique traditional costume. References Berberena, M. A Metaphorical Death by Firing Squad free essay sample

Each day the troops line up, check their bullets, sight their guns, take aim, and FIRE! I stand there helplessly riddled by bullets. Then, each night I am resurrected (not through any choice of my own I assure you) by some perverse outside will that seems to enjoy seeing me tortured. As the day gallops forth over the horizon, the entire harrowing experience starts anew. Meanwhile, off to the side sits a petite, golden-pigtailed little girl in a pretty pink taffeta dress with a tiny black heart stitched onto the sleeve. She stares forlornly at her forgotten mound of toys lying haphazardly by the exit. This is the metaphorical picture of my internal struggle to juggle school and life. Homework is my torturer, my daily executioner who denies me freedom. Yet, to be even more specific, busy work is the true culprit ordering the line of gunmen to open fire. Day in and day out I am battling pi and Newton’s forces; weaving my way through the endless, sticky mazes of matrices that haunt me in my dreams. We will write a custom essay sample on A Metaphorical Death by Firing Squad or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Just as I duck another mathematical shuriken launched at me by my calculus homework, I whirl around and face the soul-crushing pressure of yet another forces problem dumped upon me by physics. Nor does my torture end there. To face the terrible, nightmarish hedge-mazes produced by linear algebra – stripped of my magical flying calculator – is almost too much for me to bear. Why must I constantly be smothered by mountains of extra work and millions of review problems? Don’t the teachers understand that while yes, practice makes perfect, fried, melted brains oozing out onto the floor just makes a mess! Of course, college is not the only place that has bombarded me with millions upon zillions of worthless, cumbersome assignments. I remember the days of high school with endless long division, stretching off into the horizon, or piles of chemistry problems demanding the five-hundredth example of oxidation numbers. I suppose drilling us until we start humming the periodic table song in our sleep is one way to get children to remember the building blocks of the universe, or – I’ve got an even better idea – they could just let us see the damn periodic table! Furthermore, instead of forcing us to kill thousands of trees and get carpal tunnel from writing so many steps on solving matrices, how about if we were allowed to let our calculators crunch the numbers for us! But, hey, who am I to be judging such a tried and true method of teaching anyway? After all, I’m pretty much brain-dead post high school, so a little extra brow-beating shouldn’t bother me a t all. Hilariously enough, schools don’t just advocate good grades; they highly encourage well-rounded social lives as well. I suppose I’ve failed on that front considering my inner child (the girl in pink taffeta) hasn’t been seen enjoying life for years. She can’t escape because she’s been permanently walled-in by the endless amounts of tedious work I’ve had to complete. How can the schools expect me to â€Å"relax† and â€Å"join in† when they put so much weight on grades and force me to take the longest path to finish? I do think learning how to manually solve problems is important, if only to prepare for the potential arrival of a complete machine rebellion. Yet, I think that can be accomplished with a couple of homework problems; then, let those of us who feel up to the challenge use the tools our technology has provided. Maybe after that stipulation is met I can finally be both the social butterfly and the uber-nerd sought afte r by schools without sacrificing my beauty sleep. The stomping of boots and clacking of weapons signifies the fast approach of my never-ending torture. The men about-face and all aim their old-fashioned muskets at my head, awaiting the command from the general, Sergeant Tediousness. He fills his lungs, preparing to shout the order to fire when I am handed a rocket launcher through a false back in the wall. I turn it on the men and they flee as one, chasing each other into the sunset. The golden-haired child with the tiny black heart patch steps through the wall with a devious smile on her face. She takes my hand, assures me I’ll be fine, and we walk to the back of the room, straight through the exit.

Children Without Fathers essays

Children Without Fathers essays "The deteriorating condition of children - ranging from violent boys and promiscuous girls to abused children of both sexes - has become a regular feature of the daily news. The linkage of these now-familiar conditions to Fatherlessness is empirically verified by a body of social and behavioral research. Because children represent the future of our society, these negative consequences are a social calamity in the making. It is a misfortune not just for those children affected by it but for every family member." Stats show Perhaps if we pressure the government into protecting the rights of fathers in addition to those of the mother, more children can benefit from the special relationship of TWO parents who care for them and are actively involved in their lives. Lets take a look at some statistics showing the effect the ABSENCE of a father has on the nearly 22% of American children in fatherless households: 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes (Source: U.S. D.H.H.S., Bureau of the Census) 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes 85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes (Source: Center for Disease Control) 80% of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes (Source: Criminal Justice 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes (Source: National Principals Association Report on the State of High Schools.) 75% of all adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers come from fatherless homes (Source: Rainbows for all God`s Children.) 70% of juveniles in state-operated institutions come from fatherless homes (Source: U.S. Dept. of Justice, Special Report, Sept 1988) 85% of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home (Source: Fulton Co. The Wild History of Roller Skates

The Wild History of Roller Skates An overview of the evolution of dry land skating aka roller skates. Early 1700s - Skeelers In Holland, an unknown Dutchman decided to go ice skating in the summer, ice skating was the widespread method used in the Netherlands to travel the numerous frozen canals in winter. The unknown inventor accomplished dry land skating by nailing wooden spools to strips of wood and attaching them to his shoes. Skeelers was the nickname given to the new dry-land skaters. 1760 - Crashing the Masquerade Party A London instrument maker and inventor, Joseph Merlin, attended a masquerade party wearing one of his new inventions, metal-wheeled boots. Joseph desiring to make a grand entrance added the pizzazz of rolling in while playing the violin. Lining the huge ballroom was a very expensive wall-length mirror. The fiddling skater stood no chance and Merlin crashed solidly into the mirrored wall, as his roller skates crashed into society. 1818 - Roller Ballet In Berlin, roller skates made a more graceful entrance into society, with the premier of the German ballet Der Maler oder die Wintervergn Ugungen (The Artist or Winter Pleasures). The ballet called for ice-skating but because it was impossible at that time to produce ice on a stage, roller skates substituted. 1819 - First Patent In France, the first patent for a roller skate issued to a Monsieur Petibledin. The skate was made of a wood sole that attached to the bottom of a boot, fitted with two to four rollers made of copper, wood or ivory, and arranged in a straight single line. 1823 - The Rolito Robert John Tyers of London patented a skate called the Rolito with five wheels in a single row on the bottom of a shoe or boot. The Rolito was unable to follow a curved path, unlike the in-line skates of today. 1840 - Barmaids on Wheels In a beer tavern known as Corse Halle, near Berlin, barmaids on roller skates served thirsty patrons. This was a practical decision, given the size of beer halls in Germany, which gave dry land skating a publicity boost. 1857 - Public Rinks Huge public rinks opened in the Floral Hall and in the Strand of London. 1863 - Inventor James Plimpton American, James Plimpton found a way to make a very useable pair of skates. Plimptons skates had two parallel sets of wheels, one pair under the ball of the foot and the other pair under the heel. The four wheels were made of boxwood and worked on rubber springs. Plimptons design was the first dry-land skate that could maneuver in a smooth curve. This considered the birth of the modern four-wheeled roller skates, which allowed for turns and the ability to skate backwards. 1884 - Pin Ball-Bearing Wheels The invention of pin ball-bearing wheels made rolling easier and skates lighter. 1902 - The Coliseum The Coliseum in Chicago opened a public skating rink. Over 7,000 people attended the opening night. 1908 - Madison Square Gardens Madison Square Gardens in New York became a skating rink. Hundreds of rink openings in the United States and Europe followed. The sport was becoming very popular and various versions of the roller skating developed: recreational skating on indoor and outdoor rinks, polo skating, ballroom roller dancing and competitive speed skating. 1960s - Plastics Technology (with the advent of new plastics) helped the wheel truly come of age with new designs. 70s 80s - Disco A second big skating boom occurred with the marriage of disco and roller-skating. Over 4,000 roller-discos were in operation and Hollywood began making roller-movies. 1979 - Redesigning Roller Skates Scott Olson and Brennan Olson, brothers and  hockey  players who lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota, found an antique pair of roller skates. It was one of the early  skates  that used the in-line wheels rather than the four-wheeled parallel design of George Plimpton. Intrigued by the in-line design, the brothers began redesigning roller skates, taking design elements from the found skates and using modern materials. They used  polyurethane  wheels, attached the skates to ice hockey boots, and added a rubber toe-brake to their new design. 1983 - Rollerblade Inc Scott Olson founded Rollerblade Inc and  the term rollerblading  meant the sport of in-line skating because Rollerblade Inc was the only manufacturer of in-line skates for a long time. The first mass-produced rollerblades, while innovative had some design flaws: they were difficult to put on and adjust, prone to collecting dirt and moisture in the ball-bearings, the wheels were easily damaged and the brakes came from the old roller skate toe-brake and were not very effective. Rollerblade Inc Sold The Olson brothers sold Rollerblade Inc and the new owners had the money to really improve the design. The first massively successful Rollerblade skate was the Lightning TRS. In this pair of  skates  the flaws had vanished, fiberglass was used to produce the frames, the wheels were better protected, the skates were easier to put on and adjust and stronger brakes were placed at the rear. With the success of the Lightning TRS, other in-line skate companies appeared: Ultra Wheels, Oxygen,  K2  and others. 1989 - Macro and Aeroblades Models Rollerblade Inc produced the Macro and Aeroblades models, the first skates fastened with three buckles instead of long laces that needed threading. 1990 - Lighter Skates Rollerblade Inc switched to a glass-reinforced thermoplastic resin (durethan  polyamide) for their skates, replacing the  polyurethane  compounds previously used. This decreased the average weight of skates by nearly fifty percent. 1993 - Active Brake Technology Rollerblade, Inc. developed ABT or Active Brake Technology. A fiberglass post attached at one end to the top of the boot and at the other end to a  rubber-brake,  hinged the chassis at the back wheel. The skater had to straighten one leg to stop, driving the post into the brake, which then hit the ground. Skaters had been tilting their foot back to make contact with the ground, before ABT. The new brake design increased safety. Presently the best way for you to experience the latest inventions in the world of wheels is up-close and personal. Please do so, try in-line skating and keep rolling.

Technology Research and Report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Technology Research and Report - Essay Example Frank Ohrtman (2003, p.116) indicates that among data exchange standard, there has been phenomenal improvement especially in XML MP3 and TCP/IP the much dependent upon broad access to nonproprietary networking and data communications infrastructure (the Internet) that has been a principle tool in supporting the rising of technology waves and strong development undercurrents . Current technological landscape In this technological age, the combination of new standards, distributed software, expertise and a worldwide Internet infrastructure has created and continues to create a profoundly new technological architecture landscape. The advancement on technology has contributed immensely to heavy investment in the information technology industry. Organisations have increased investments in technologies and standards that allow them to bring structure to unstructured information. The motivation to replace unstructured with structured data is not the sole responsibility of the information co mmunity and the library alone, but also among business and national authorities across the world nations. On average enterprises operate with upto 85 percent of unstructured content, upon which efforts are being focused on harnessing their power in order for the enterprises to benefit from resulting competitive advantages. (Aray R., 2004). Among many others, there have emerged search engines as a dominant technical and structural approach towards automated data categorisation. Savvy Web users have become experts (professionally known as SEOs) at optimizing search strategies to maximize of the expected result although pressure has arose for much more advanced/structures search engines. Delivery of mobiles services This technology has also been widely embraced in the mobile technology. Provision of websites that are viewable via mobile phones is increasingly on demand and organisations have largely embraced provision of services and information through mobile technology (Andreas F. 20 11) Mobile service providers have been largely affected by the current technology landscape as they have to cope with ever emerging changes in the industry. Big chunks of the world’s population today are holders of mobile phones. Mobiles are not only used as communication devices but as also devices to access the Internet. The integration of such capabilities in the mobile devices has triggered a paralleled competition among mobile service providers as well as manufactures (Ajay R., 210). Effect of coverage and limitations Irrespective of geographical and topographical challenges, mobile service providers have managed to provide network coverage for their services to almost all parts within where their businesses operate. Though some challenges of network coverage are largely found in the African continent, most areas in the continent still enjoy these services. Advantages of 2G, 3G and 4G The mobile telecommunications industry has seen a lot of evolution since the inception of the use of mobile phone as a means of communication. There have been migrations in the industry such as the 2G, 3G and now the famous 4G networks in this industry. These have seen the industry improve provision of service to mobile owners become streamlined and the service advanced. The 2G technology evolved from 1G technology

The Rights of the Nonhuman World by Mary Anne Warren Assignment

The Rights of the Nonhuman World by Mary Anne Warren - Assignment Example Humans can experience humiliation and etc. in similar circumstances. The same thing is with a moral right on life: animal don’t suffer morally from ruined hopes, or long term plans, while humans do. 3. Firstly, despite being not fully capable of a moral behavior, nonparadigm humans still possess a potential or partial moral autonomy. Thus, humans respect their moral rights in order to keep an existing moral attitude (order) among human beings. Secondly, it’s simply hard to define a degree of a moral autonomy when it’s full, or when it’s partial for nonparadigm humans. 4. Nonsentient natural entities are a great part of natural environment on Earth. They influence life of other entities and thus, trees and mountains etc. have an intrinsic value for other entities. Yet that can’t be discussed in terms of moral rights because nonsentient entities aren’t capable of pain or satisfaction. 5. Both land ethic environmentalists and animal liberationists deny a homocentric view on moral rights. Warren says they complete, because they both are wrong. Land ethical environmentalists neglect a difference of â€Å"logical foundation† when discussing moral rights of nonsentient and sentient natural entities, while animal liberationists don’t see how different is content and strength of human and animals’ moral capacities (Warren

Speed control of dc motor using pll

Speed control of dc motor using pll INTRODUCTION: Feasibility Study, for final year project, is to establish whether the project is technically or financially feasible. The aim for the report is to ascertain an understanding between the student and the supervisor on the title of the project. It also requires establishing an understanding on the matter of aims and objectives. Such understanding is vital for the success of the project. The project work, that is to be undertaken, should be well planned so as to oversee the problems that lay ahead. Thus, the report delivers some insight into the planning phase. It gives aims and objectives for the project and explains various stages of work which will be involved. It further gives out a time plan that would direct the project itself through out the year. Such a planning would ensure the success of the project. Hence, the documentation of such a planning gives Feasibility Study. AIMS: Use the technique of Phase Locked based speed estimator to control the speed of a DC motor. To create the overall system with, A Phase Locked Loop (PLL) for the speed feedback. A Phase Detection Logic that would compare the user speed (set point/frequency) to the motors actual speed. A method for detection of the speed of the DC motor. OBJECTIVES: A firm grip of theory on the Phase Locked Loop would clear all the concepts of such a technique and its industrial uses. To devise a ‘Closed Loop Control System that would enable the user to control the speed of the DC motor. It should be based on frequency domain design techniques (bode diagrams). Detail work on the logic for Phase Detector or Synthesizer. Research on how the Voltage Control Oscillator (VCO) works. To use a suitable optical sensor that senses and returns the speed of the DC motor. The logic behind the signals, to and from the sensor, to be calculated. Using Mat-lab for devising the transfer function and Tina for the circuit of the system. Designing the hardware for the system. TOPIC OVERVIEW: A Phase Lock Loop (PLL) synchronizes an output signal with a reference or input signal in frequency as well as in phase.Phase Locked Loop is used in various communication networks to chuck out noise from various signals. Here it is used to control the speed of a DC motor. This is because PLL has a capability to control the manner in which the phase of the Voltage Control Oscillator (VCO) follows a changing reference phase. In other words it can be said that the designer can make the loop to follow quickly or sluggishly to the original input signal. This characteristic would enable users to control the speed of the DC motor. WORK STAGES: Literature Search A brief research, comprising of study related to Phase Locked Loop and Control System such as closed loop system, was conducted to facilitate in writing the feasibility report. Extensive study in the mentioned fields must be obtained before the practical work is started. Research would be required to deal with the prospect of working out the components for the PLL Fig 2. Comprehensive research would also be required to create and build the circuits for the components in Fig1. Phase detection logic have to be devised that would require the time. Study related to transfer functions, of an order, that uses frequency domain should be done. Further study for the Bode diagrams would be needed. Simulink for the Mat-Lab and Tina would require some attention as they are the primary tool for testing. A research in optical sensors would be likely and the transfer of data, to and from the sensor, would need investigation. The speed of the motor and what is given by the user can be represented on a screen. An insight into it would be an option. The equipments provided, like PLL IC and VCO Unit, would require thorough study. Block Diagram Design Protocol Design This phase of the work will be based on Mat-lab and Tina. The experiment would be simulation of the transfer function. Once the theory for the transfer function is completed, the derived function is written in Mat-lab and the corresponding bode graphs are investigated. These graphs would give a comprehensive illustration of the relevant components in the system. In other words it can be presumed, for the mat-lab simulation, that it would provide every bit of detailed information before the real circuit is built and the motor is accelerated. Pseudo-Code Pseudo-Code is a program code unrelated to the hardware of a particular computer and requiring conversion to the code used by the computer before the program can be used. This area of work deals with what is called extensive programming. The project would not require such level of programming. It would only require the simulation for the transfer function via using Mat-lab. Hence learning the software would be crucial for the success of the project. CAPITAL RESOURCES: The total budget allocation to the project is  £ 50. The equipment used within the project are given to be, Phase Locked Loop (PLL) IC. Op-amps ICs VCO Unit and Counter Usual lab equipment Software Mat-Lab 7.0 ( Simulate the transfer function of the control system) Tina 6.02 (For designing and testing the circuits) PROJECT TIME PLAN REFERENCES: http://dictionary.reference.com/ for definitions http://hem.passagen.se/communication/fm_pll_vco.html an insight for the VCO unit and PLL unit. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of clergyman. He graduated from Morehouse College, in Atlanta, in 1948, and received a Ph.D. in theology from Boston University in 1955. After being ordained a Baptist minister in 1947, Martin was named assistant pastor of his father’s church, Ebenezer Baptist Church in Montgomery. In 1960 he became co-pastor of his father’s church, a post he held until his death. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, where he had gone to support striking sanitation workers. James Earl Ray was convicted of his murder.[1] The intents of this paper are to: (1) find out why Martin Luther king was distinct from other black leaders; (2) know of his specific works and his literature; (3) be aware of the conspiracy of his death. II. Background A. Why Martin Luther King Jr. was distinct from other black leaders? We have learned that King was very popular due to its noble works that he had done to every race. He was the only leader that received numerous awards even before and after his death. Aside from the award he won in the Nobel Prize, he received another award from a prestige group of Jewish American in 1965. One year after, the Margaret Sanger Award was presented to King, Jr. by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America for his spirited and dauntless resistance to racism and his enduring devotion and commitment for his principle of having a an equality among races. Not like with other black American leaders, King, Jr. also received the President Medal of Freedom in 1977 after his death.[2] And in the 20th century, Martin Luther King, Jr. is regarded as the second most appreciated person. Moreover, aside from the awards he received, he helped Southern Christian Leadership Conference to be found and eventually, he was hailed as head of the organization. The aims and grounds of this organization were based on Christianity and its operational strategies were from Gandhi. During his service, he was able to travel over six million miles and spoke for about twenty-five hundred times.[3] Throughout his leadership, he headed a huge demonstration and rally in Birmingham, Alabama that took notice world widely which provided of what he called a â€Å"coalition of conscience† III. Discussion A. King as a leader Martin Luther King, Jr. was a United States clergyman and civil rights leader. King became the nation’s most prominent spokesman for equal justice for black Americans. He was a charismatic leader and an eloquent speaker, who preached nonviolent resistance to unjust laws and practices, a tactic he adopted from Indian leader Mohandas K. Gandhi. His civil rights efforts helped to bring about passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1964.[4] In 1983, the U.S. Congress voted to make his birthday, January 15, a national holiday (celebrated on the third Monday of the month). In addition, his books and literature that were written include: Stride toward Freedom (1958); Measure of a Man (1059); Strength to love (1963); Why We Can’t Wait (1964); and The Trumpets of Conscience (1968).[5] King began his involvement in the modern civil rights movement in 1955 with leadership of the Montgomery (Alabama) bus boycott, which ended segregated seating on that city’s public buses. He then urged black Americans to follow the Montgomery example and win their rights through non-violent protest. As head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which he helped to found in 1957, Martin Luther King, Jr. led demonstrations, marches, sit-ins, and boycotts in many cities in both the South and the North, often meeting hostility and sometimes violence.[6] He was jailed several times in the South for his activities. In 1967, he also became a leader of the peace movement, seeking an end to the Vietnamese War. B. Its Allegations Several suspected that there was a conspiracy during the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. Furthermore, the said eyewitnesses who surrounded King, Jr. during his assassination stated that the shot came from different locations and it came from thick shrubbery nearly close to the â€Å"rooming house† and did not exactly come there. James Earl Ray was suspected as the assassin and was put into trial. On the other hand, Dexter King- son of Martin Luther King- was able to meet Ray and showed support publicly on Ray's efforts to have a trial during 1997.[7] Two years later, Martin Luther King's wife, Coreatta Scott King, and along with the member of her family received an erroneous trial against Loyd Jowers and to the unidentified accomplices. Three years after (2000), the Department of Justice had its investigation on Jower's claims but it failed to look for evidence in order to support the allegations.[8] IV. Conclusion The life of Martin Luther King, Jr. was truly a blessing for every black American who experienced equality and biases from the â€Å"superior race.† This man leaves a very notable reputation and honors that none of the black Americans can compare with his notable record as a man who brought changed in America's society. Martin Luther King, Jr. has truly contributed to the history of United States of America. His upright deeds will not be forgotten for every individual especially for those who experienced racism. He was a type of a leader that was able to lead a mass writhe for racial equality that doomed separation and brought changed to the United States of America. His assassination was not the end of the â€Å"black people society† to keep fighting for their rights but it was only the beginning that motivated their hearts to continue fighting for its principles and rights.
